As cold fronts started to push through the mountains, the smallmouth season began to fade away leaving great memories of how this past season was “One For The Books”. Record rain fall made this season tough to get out and fish the French Broad River with any consistency all summer long. If you were fortunate to get out and fish, you know that stained water and high water levels were the norm. These two variables had fish spread out and hard to find at times but with patients and a little hard work finding big fish was not impossible.

Fortunately for me, I had an opportunity to end the season on a high note with anglers Paul Turner and Chas Murphy. These two gentlemen were in hot pursuit of some French Broad Smallmouth from the time we climbed in the boat and they definitely made every cast count.

A couple of good friends of mine decided to end the summer with a bag and throw hoppers till they dropped. These trout junkies packed their gear and set up base camp in Twin Bridges Montana. Over the course of seven days they floated the Big Hole, waded the Madison, Jefferson, and finally made their way through Slough Creek. Unfortunately reports that a cold front had moved through the area slowed down the famous hopper bite a just a tad but Tricos and a few other secrets still had fish in a frenzy before old man winter began his rule of the land.

Good to hear that everyone made it back! Knowing this crowd someone was bound to stay one one week. Thanks for sharing some great photos from the trip. Days like these are memories that you never forget!
